the production renaissance of rhythm plate continues apace with the third release on their pressed for time label which revisits one of the peak district duos earliest releases. originally issued on the crucial uk house imprint diy discs back in the halcyon days of the late nineties, the masters at wirksworth ep helped establish the rhythm plate sound. clever programming and a deep stomping vibe permeated all four tracks and this is still the case some fourteen years on. as the cunningly re-titled ep suggests, the two original tracks have been newly remastered and are accompanied by two brand spanking new mixes by matt rhythm and ant plate ... so theres now no reason to pay l106 on discogs for the original ep!

jose cabrera and fred p split the first installment of the perception series. the determinism ep sees jc and fp giving their slant on principles of quantum level events through sound. raw and driving, this ep is a more than an adequate dj tool, it is a formula for the transportation of the subconscious. determinism is a metaphysical philosophical position stating that for everything that happens there are conditions such that, given those conditions, nothing else could happen. there are many determinisms, depending upon what pre-conditions are considered to be determinative of an event. deterministic theories throughout the history of philosophy have sprung from diverse motives and considerations, some of which overlap. some forms of determinism can be tested empirically with ideas stemming from physics and the philosophy of physics. the opposite of determinism is some kind of indeterminism (otherwise called nondeterminism).

nicolas cantu makes a welcome return to sequencias with the lost tribea brisk 808 workout with lush synthwork and psychedelic acid stylings. this is a more breezy approach compared to his work on other labels yet spares none of the imaginative or emotive qualities. on the flip side, label head jm de frias offers up the dissonant groover the light as a follow up to his debut track from levon vincents acclaimed fabric mix cd. brash percussion collides with staccato melodies awash in echo and organ, sustaining an intensity that never quite boils over. the two team up for the closer the last light, an atmospheric epic of growling strings, breathy ambience and melancholy stitched together with creaky, decrepit acid stabs and brittle percussion. this is the beginning of an on going collaboration between the two, keep your ears open in the near future.

ambivalent & michael l penman debut on ovum with *shimmer*. having found a very fruitful collaborative friendship, michael l penman and ambivalent (aka kevin mchugh) have begun exploring the intersection of their approaches to music-making. they originally connected when kevin discovered michaels music in 2010. after playing many of his productions in his dj sets and including them in a mix-cd (_ground) release for minus, kevin made contact and the pair began exchanging files and swapping ideas. this led to time in the studio together and yet more file exchanges. quickly a natural creative balance emerged as they found that their production techniques were complementary as is their shared love of groove, bass and musicality. for their ovum debut the duo have delivered a trio of tracks that have those three elements at their core. title track shimmer brings together raw jackin funk with a warm driving bassline and scything techy stabs whilst chevalier matches its fun bouncy groove with an infectious and spritely melody. final track memogram comes heavy with the oldskool, delivering a bed of beats and samples beneath the very heaviest of acid-kicks. not for the feint of heart!
